For you, maybe it's a waste of money. For a lot of less experienced collectors, many compilations are very valuable. Some compilations do seem a little like a waste of time (Say, a "John William's Greatest Hits" cd or something), but the "Alien" scores are not overwhelmingly popular. This can provide the best tracks to someone who doesn't want all the complete scores, or give a good taste of the music to someone who isn't sure whether to dig deeper.
