Although I' m a Horner fan,I must admit that this soundtrack is a real challenge for Horner fans and non-Horner fans, although it has a large amount of enjoyable musical moments and unique motifs and orchestral solutions. The main problem with it that its main theme is repeated too many times. However, although it is repeated many times, the Main Title is still excellent - it is elegiac, sad, dramatic, yet powerful at the same time. There are a lot of musical moments which recall certain moments from Horner' s best soundtracks - namely, from Titanic and Braveheart.Yes,Horner noticably steal from his earlier works, but since his style includes this characteristic feature,we have been already used to it.The gentle piano solos accompanied by heartfelt strings and noble brasses are good for relaxing, and quite effective in the movie, but there are nothing special in them from why you should want to revisit them from time to time. However, certain tracks are excellent:Give Me The Hammer And I Will Nail Them Up is excellent : it is sad, elegiac, suspenseful, dramatic, yet hopeful at the same time, Conjuring The Hick Vote is the same.My favourite track is Anne' s Memories where noble brasses and heartfelt strings dominate, and these are further accompanied by a lonely flute. The Rise To Power is an effective
melodramatic piece.Love' s Betrayal is a simple, yet effective piece with an elegiac tune performed by strings, brasses and pianos.Only Faded Pictures and
Verdict - Punishment are good examples of Horner' s dramatic potential.
As you might notice, there are types of tracks which might not proved to be attractive even to a Horner fan,but still,it is one of the best dramatic scores of the year due to the many types of tracks it has contain and the quality of the music.
