A Batman What-If: Michael Jackson instead of Prince?   Thursday, January 25, 2018 (8:17 a.m.)

Reading this review again got me thinking about Elfman's career and how he wouldn't have gotten where he is today if Batman wasn't the smash hit it was. And it's kinda fascinating how there was a whole album of Prince music he had to work around.

It got me thinking about what if Michael Jackson was signed to Warner Bros at the time, and if they had gotten him to make a soundtrack album. It's not difficult for me to imagine MJ's songs taking even more prominent a role than Prince's did. Maybe to the point that Elfman would be unable to work around it. Hell, maybe they fire Elfman and just stick with MJ's songs and drop a score altogether!

It would drastically alter the careers of Burton, Keaton, and Jackson. But in the score world, us fans, who had first heard of Elfman with Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice, would be left asking one question:

Danny are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay, Danny?
