I agree that the score is terrific. The cue you're talking about was a replacement for Ray's western-styled theme which was included on the album. I know that the cue heard in the final film was either an Ennio Morricone track or Goldsmith's homage to Ennio Morricone. Maybe this has something to do with it.

This is an excellent soundtrack, on of my favouirites. I got it when it
