Show your power: STOP HARRY POTTER with your "Holy Power" T-shirt!   Friday, November 22, 2002 (8:35 p.m.)

Show Who Powers Your Life! Harry Potter is an abomination to God!

View the T-shirt: http://store.conservativepetitions.com/images/holypower2.jpg

When, with a swish of a wand, young Harry Potter conjures up supernatural magic, it's not just harmless fantasy, as our children and grandchildren are being led to believe. The truth is there are only two sources of power at work in the world today -- God and Satan. So you are either operating in Holy Power or demonic power. It's as clear cut as that!

The Holy Power t-shirt, exclusive to the Christian Response Enterprises store, shows which side powers and influences your life. It boldly answers the godless witchcraft being crammed down our society's throat as innocent escapism by displaying 1 John 4:4 -- "Greater is He that is in me than he who is in the world."

Act now to get this limited-edition t-shirt. They will go quickly on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay. You won't find the Holy Power t-shirt anywhere else. Order now!

http://store.conservativepetitions.com/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=78

Although the devil is allowed some power, when born-again Christians tap into God's awesome power, all things are possible -- even supernatural miracles! Blessed with wondrous gifts, we don't need spells or potions or wands for God's power to do good, change lives and save souls in Jesus' name. Harry Potter is a danger to society's young, who may try to emulate Potter and his gang of Satanic followers in their summoning of the powers of darkness.

Holy Power speaks loudly to that fact in shopping malls and school halls. The t-shirt is designed to attract attention and start conversations that open doors to witnessing. People need to know nothing is innocent or harmless about the evil one, who uses his power to steal, kill and destroy. The Bible thus warns using the power of witchcraft is an abomination to God.

Author J.K. Rowling has successfully repackaged witchcraft in its most dangerous form yet -- children's fantasy literature. God states the practices of witchcraft are an abomination and expects His children to feel the same way. Yet we haven't had all the facts to take a stand and make a difference -- until now!

For what to say during such opportunities, check out Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged, a 60-minute video that exposes the practices and philosophy of witchcraft, visually demonstrating how they're presented in the Potter series' books and movies. Spells, curses, divination, communing with dead spirits, mediums, goddess worship, reincarnation, use of witchcraft tools and symbols -- they're all covered, along with the Scripture against them.

I think that FILMTRACKS should delete this...   Saturday, November 23, 2002 (1:05 a.m.)

I think that FILMTRACKS should delete this comment of yours. It has nothing to do with music and little to do with Harry Potter. You're just using FILMTRACKS to give a FREE commercial of your product. I don't think that Harry Potter is satan or devil or any other force of darkness, and Williams' music proves it! Try to listen to it and you'll see how beautiful it is!

Re: Show your power: STOP HARRY POTTER with your "Holy Power" T-shirt!   Tuesday, November 26, 2002 (2:20 a.m.)

George Orwell would probably say this is doubleplus ungood (just as my friend Mithrandir has said several times). If one were to look toward the Bible for guidance, what would Jesus have to say about someone or a group of people profiting (selling T-shirts) on the basis of spurring a conflict in his name? Perhaps a reading of Stan Lee's "God Woke" may provide an answer.

Sheldon's post has no relevance to this site (obviously), but an intellectual reply should be made. Truth cannot be obtained, but we strive for it and seek it out--misinterpreting it all our lives. This concept is nothing new; it's been around since Plato. There's nothing particularly wrong with misinterpreting truth and seeking it out, just as long as we *know* we are.

This old censorious cycle of sustaining beliefs (whatever offshoot of Christianity Sheldon is advertising) with emergent ones that may or may not even exist (Rowling's mythos) is quite embarassing for the human race--but we have been doing it since time began (so why not keep doing it, right?). The Romans conquered the Greeks and absorbed their culture (and religion), renaming the gods. When Christianity began, the Romans persecuted the Christians. Nazi beliefs (yes, they were religious in nature) spurred the persecution of the Jews. And now, it's a persecution of Wicca (or anything un-Christian) and even perhaps the beginning of persecuting Middle Eastern religious groups. And on and on and on.

As far as stopping Harry Potter in any sense, that notion defies what is at the heart of America and its Constitution: the freedom of beliefs and of speech. So, until we have the police state of Orwell's 1984 and the Ministry of Truth, don't hold your breath. And then, once we do, that'll be all any of us can do (along with holding our tongue).

Metacritic

P.S. Why would wizards and witches celebrate Christmas (as is shown in the first Harry Potter film)? Hmmmmm.

Harry Potter - Fighting AGAINST Evil Powers   Thursday, November 28, 2002 (7:19 p.m.)

I feel ashamed for the things that this man has said. Calling Harry Potter fans Satanists is plainly going to far. I was shocked and sad when I read this appalling comment. He seems to be against all types of fantasy fiction. This would mean that this man would have to be against The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and even The Wizard of Oz. In most fantasy movies today there are good guys and bad villians. Harry Potter is a wizard who uses his power for the good of those around him. HE DOES NOT USE IT FOR EVIL AND DARK FORCES! Harry Potter is a Hero with many great character qualities that are rarely seen in movies today. Harry Potter risks his life many times fighting for what is right and good. The man who left that harsh comment is displaying a shameful lack of self-control. I have found nothing dark and diabolic about Harry Potter. Harry Potter haters most likely know nothing about him. Their opinions are just plain worthless. This message was not meant to offend anyone but rather to defend Harry Potter. He is a loyal and courageous boy who fights for the good of his friends.

wow. Im amazed at all the abominable thoughts going thru peoples heads these days. Harry Potter is simply a character in a book, nothing more. Hes not evil, because he is not real. if u are not real, u cant have thoughts, opinions, or any of the other requirements of being "good or evil". Furthermore, J.K. Rowlng is just a lady with a talent in writing who wanted to make some money. I dont understand how u could say shes trying to influence the youth of the world thru her books, because people are real, and a quality of being real is the ability to CHOOSE. people can choose wheather they think Harry Potter is some evil psyco out to brainwash the worlds young people and rise to destroy humanity armed with a wand and a scar, or, the more reasonable option, he is a character in a book, a well writtten book that allows induviduals to pass the many hours between when u wake up in the morning and go to sleep. But, the point is, do not create more out of this than what there is. Harry Potter is not real. Hogwarts is not real. There is no magic in this world, if there ever was, it was wiped out by humanity a long time ago.

I agree with Ozzy. All you are doing is marketing a product and that has nothing to do with the music at all.
Half the young witches and wizards at Hogwarts are probably christan anyway. why else would they celebrate christmas?
the score is breath taking, and wonderfully written, but why would you even bother getting involved with it if you hate it. i put it to you to actually read the books, with a clear mind.
all these books have been analyzed to the tenth degree by real theologans that have decided that the books are not evil and satanic, and in fact, just good fiction writing. people are flocking away from the churches. many of them, because of the fact that priests and heavy god botherers have an oppinion that they believe should be the only one.
if you remove harry potter, it would be like destroying every copy of lord of the rings. does that not have "witchcraft" as you put it, all the way through it. but lotr does not get critisism.
there is no mention at all of satan, or evil gods and goddesses in harr potter.like daryl said: when we get a scene where little 6 year olds are summoning satan THEN you gotta start worrying.
but until then, let the people who enjoy harry potter enjoy it, and refrain from preaching to the rest of us. it is everyone's own choice to choose what they read. if the pope suddenly became interested in the occult, for instance, there would not be a thing you could do to stop it. there would be general uproar amongst the catholic community, but it would be his onw choice.

Frankly, I'm as mortified and offended with the responses to this post as I am with the post itself. The only two people who had anything sensible to say in a rational tone were Geoffrey Morrow and Ozzy, the former of whom exhibited a great deal of emotional self control while presenting a credible argument against the post, and the later of whom did likewise while offering a sound fact we should all take heed to. The rest of us, on the other hand, decided to take things less reasonably. One of us needs to mind their tongue, another has decided to use this opportunity to argue against christianity, thus playing the hypocrite since he is merely performing the same injustice as sheldon but in the opposite philosophical direction, another has attempted to strike a stake into the hearts of a few of us by attacking the catholic priest molestation cases, and the rest of us have decided to post pointless jabs at this post, offering no rational argument as to our reasoning other then he's a retart. It's disgusting, and has thus led me to perform an action I rarely ever do, exhibit my frustration in a post such as this. Grow up people.

you guys, you CANNOT be here without Harry Potter!   Wednesday, March 12, 2003 (11:18 a.m.)

Without human imaginations, human could never have found electricity, making computers, not to say GET ONLINE!!!!!!! All these technology is the cause for us to be here, RIGHT NOW, reading this online discussion. If Harry Potter is so satanic, how could we get here searching internet??? YOU -- you could not sit in such comfortable chairs, with air-conditioning ON, and looking casually through the internet, trying to rebuke someone who could not go back to the way of living like 2000 years ago. Harry Potter is just another fiction, another imagination. We could never have reach here, gather around in this online discussion, without basic human imaginations!!!!!

and the t-shirt, the T-Shirt!!!! where does it come from? IT IS ALL SATANICAL!!!!! The T-shirt itself is invented by human imaginations, the style, and technology that causes those pretty pictures to stick on there, Jesus has never told us to wear something different. You CORRUPTIVE BUSSINESS MEN WHO TRY TO SEEK PROFIT!!!!

If you are compaigning for the satanic nature of the movie HARRY POTTER, please don't ride the car or bicycle next time, don't EVEN think of going to work, to shopping, to bussiness conferences with a car, a bicycle, and air plane, it is all HUMAN, sir, ALL SATANICAL!!!

May the Satan not to laugh too much of you...

OKAY i have something to say. This is a site about FILM MUSIC. This site is to rate the music written about a film. not the book which the film is based off of. And what exactly is the difference between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. They both have magic. But i dont see anything like this on the LOTR review. And plus even if you think Harry Potter is satanic (which its not, they fight evil not encourage it) then that is your bussiness. we have the right to listen to this music and read these books without you people yelling at us and telling us that we are satan worshippers. I hate satan. I am a christian i believe in god and heaven. And i believe God made me love music the way i do. But i also like HARRY POTTER. Is that not allowed? I think that as long as you believe in god then he doesn't care if we read harry potter. But back too the main point. THIS IS A FILM MUSIC SITE NOT A "CALL ALL THE HARRY POTTER FANS SATAN WORSHIPERS" SITE. Okay and we have a right to read Harry Potter, see the films and listen to the music without being called Satan worshipers. I think i speak for most of us when i say that we aren't satan worshipers. I'm not.

Harry potter is a book. Its not a colt (I hope I spelled that right) brochure! Imagination wasn't satanic the last time I checked. You might as well take barny off the air for having talking, singing, and shrinking dinosaurs. I'm sorry but the bible has more violence and satanic references than Harry Potter.

Cute Shirt...but Harry is nice...   Tuesday, March 30, 2004 (11:34 a.m.)

First off- I think the shirt is adorable and if I wasnt a broke college student I might be inclined to try a little impulse shopping and buy one right now.

Secondly- Being a Christian, myself, I must admit that when the Harry Potter books began popping up on shelves, I was skeptical about how whitches and wizards and (gasp!) magic *shudder* were all being encorperated into these stories that children seemed to be thrilled about. I even recommended to some of the kids that I baby-sat and tutored to try some other books designed for their age group.
Of course, once I came to college I had many people inform me that I was missing out "big-time" by not having read these books, and so I figured that knowing what I was reccommending against would probably be a good idea so that I could discuss the subject intellegently..... Well- a few chapters and I began to see that this wasnt a tale of worshiping magic or witchcraft- but that, in fact, in these books magic is unable to solve most of the problems that a child faces growing up. The series actually seemed to present magic in a very similar way as Cinderella, Star Wars, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and many of the other fairy tales that we grew up reading (and watching). It is very clearly a work of fiction, and no less a fairy tale than Cinderella (except that it is an EXTREMEMELY LONG fairy tale ) In fact it promotes a lot of good character values such as friendship, family, diligence and doing one's homework on time (thanks Herminone). I'd just suggest to everyone that before they form any opionions on this series that they read the books and see for themselves the value that it can have as literature and the lack of attacts on Christianity.
Oh, and since I wrote this very quickly between classes, there is a much better article on Harry Potter by a Christian at http://veritaserum.com/editorials/pottertidbits/12-08-03.shtml

Re: Show your power: STOP HARRY POTTER with your "Holy Power" T-shirt!   Tuesday, March 28, 2006 (3:37 p.m.)

I once was totally with you on the issue of Harry Potter. I must now disagree. I was a christian for 38 years and now I realize that there is no evil power or holy power. There is only the power within yourself and people have been taught that believing in yourself is a sin because your supposed to lean on god. The churches get richer from our contributions and the government keeps on gaining more and more control over our lives because we are taught that we have to do what we are told by god and the law as long as the two don't conflict. People worry so much about what people will think of them and about pleasing god that they forget that life is precious and needs to be lived. Harry Potter is fiction and also a very fun story. The bible is also fiction but it is filled with mass murders and false promises of a better world. The difference is that the bible claims to be true and scares people into believing that they will burn in hell if they don't believe in it. Harry Potter is just a movie that promises good entainment and is meant to be FICTION! As a once christian, I understand why the christian community is against Harry Potter, but I must say that since I discovered the truth about the bible and christianity, I feel much relief to be free of all the quilt about so many things that now I enjoy. In looking back, I feel that I am a better person today than I have ever been. I am less judgemental and much happier in general. I also have a new love of life that I have never experienced before. I love all the Harry Potter movies that I once refused to watch and I see no reason not to let my children watch them. Don't Disney movies also have magic in them? Why is noone here trying to abolish those movies?

Because nothing was ever this big or aimed at such a broad section of society. There was never a serious "Disney Fan Cult" unlike the HP one starting to develop, so there was nothing for christians to attack. HP is an almost perfect target for them to declare evil.

You suck. There is little more to be said except this: Can you proove that HP is evil. I have not yet encountered a christian post that actually prooves any of this stuff. You just say it happens. The bible doesn't count as proof- from the looks of it, a good deal of that was made up. If you could proove it that would be really interesting.

What an Abosolute LIE   Sunday, May 14, 2006 (3:58 a.m.)

Excuse me, mr Sheldon, but you have made a few mistakea.

Point 1:
Since when were today's young people being "led to beleive" that magic was real !?! There are NO repeat NO sane chidlren (who have reached some basic level of maturity) who believe HP is real! The only exceptions are really little kids, but they grow out of it (I would be prepared to bet that you believed in magic etc and some stage yourself). You would be hard pressed to find any kids who could testify that they now believe firmly in magic after having read HP. HP may have offended some of the more extreme christain community, but it is just not drawing children into some dark, horrific cult of satan. I fully understand if you do not like the story, and you are fully entitled to your opinoin, but to attack it on these grounds is completely unfair and without basis in fact.

Point 2:
I think it quite probable that you are not a child or trained in psychology. In that case, you are in no position whatsoever to make statements on what today's young people believe and do not believe. If today's young people do believe HP is real, let them say that.

Point 3:
You stated in you post that "there are only two sources of power at work in the world today -- God and Satan. So you are either operating in Holy Power or demonic power. It's as clear cut as that!". The world is hardly that simple and few people actively fight for either of the two sides, but even if it were so, J.K. Rowling is not fighting for either in the HP series. None of the books contain any reference to God or Satan (if you let the characters act as metaphors for others, the only conceivable conclusion is that Hp is jesus fighting against the devil!).

Point 4:
You also stated that "supernatural miracles" are possible. this is a complete fabrication. No supernatural miracles have occured that modern science is unable to explain. The bible is not a valid system of support for their existence.

Thank you. I hope you have learned soemthing.

It's harmless fiction! Come on!   Sunday, May 21, 2006 (5:31 a.m.)

Whatever you said to the contrary, there is no evidence whatsoever to proove Hp is anything other than fantasy. It does not desensitize our youth or worship satan or anything similar. I have read it, my family has read it and my friends have read it. Some of these were christian and HP did not have any effect on that. So please do not make statements or arguements without basis in fact.

Good day

Prove it   Sunday, June 4, 2006 (1:23 a.m.)

Interesting post. Shame that it's a load of

You may notice it does not contain a single sentence that actually PROVES that Harry is evil or some agent of Satan (whom I suspect was simply created so the church could kill people they didn't like). Harry Potter is not making people take up arms to kill the church or anything (If anything would do that, it would be posts like yours). So many people have read Harry Potter, but nobody has denounced the church because of it.

The other thing, you said that "God adn Satan" are the only forces at work today. I'm sorry, but things just don't work like that. There's the US and Iraq, there's white Australians versus leabnese Australians, there's all sorts of forces, few of which fight for God and virtually none for satan.

Sorry pal, but you just don't understand people today. No offence, but you are a little extremist. Please calm down and take things easy. Harry is not a big deal, unless you make it one.

If you dig deep enough on the net, you can find info on the ultra-conservative "Louis P. Sheldon" (possibly the "trial lawyer" found elsewhere on this site), leader of an extremely conservative group. He apparently has a son by the name of Phil Sheldon. One of these men may have posted it.

No it's not. Most people are not allied with either of these factions (many don't believe they actually exist). There is no satanic conspiracy trying to bring down the christian world and if there is, they are going to need something a bit more potent than Harry. It's been around for a few years now, and nothing has happened.

> Although the devil is allowed some power, when born-again Christians tap

Maybe Harry is tapping into God's power with his magic. Rowling never specifies the way magic originated in her world or how it operates. God may well be the source. When you look at it, it's in many ways an allegory of the christian story. Harry is jesus, voldemort is satan, etc.

In any case, the story is not really a threat to christians any more than star wars. In Rowling's world, magic is merely the way things are achieved; it is their substitute for technology, weapons, etc. I don't think it will cause children to try and emulate it. If some people are so worried about Harry Potter, then why aren't they afraid of Star Wars causing people to reject God in favour of the force?
