  Ethnic outbursts?!

This review is often insightful and gave me food for thought regarding Portman's score, but I couldn't help being somewhat shocked by the so-called "ethnic outbursts" and "ethnicity" of the score mentioned by the reviewer... What ethnicities are we talking about here? Do guitars and an occasional accordion make a score step into an ethnic group? If so, what ethnic group do The Cider House Rules and The Legend of Bagger Vance belong to?

Just slightly puzzled by terminology here...
