Elliot Goldenthal's innovative score is, for lack of a better word, indescribable; It has a very eclectic flavor to it. For those who are versed in the musical tapestry of Goldenthal, then you know exactly where these ideas have ended up. One of the highlights of the score is the use of the Rag Piano: An instrument that befits the context of the movie.
Of all the daring and distintive scores to have appeared over the years prior, Goldenthal has projected a score of inordinate restraint. The film - which was pretty much ignored on release - introduced me to bold, unflinching writing for orchestra. These days we strive to stumble upon originality. Here, we recieve it in spades. I have never heard a score as diverse as 'Cobb,' and i urge any regular vistor of 'Filmtracks' to sample it.
