Gabriel music is neither dull nor uncreative. He won a well deserving Oscar for the English Patient Soundtrack. He is not one of the best out there but you have to take a close look at what influences his music. He is more old school Orchestra per say and his themes tend to be understated intentially to fit the mood of the films. I didn't like his wok on Cold Mountain but his other movies, English Patient, Autumn in New York...etc were not bad.

Also, if he was such a bad composer, how come major studioes with Osacr worthy buzz movies hire him to do the job??
