Ah, but I didn't say he was "so bad." I simply state that he is neither good nor bad, just kind of average, in my opinion. I did not like his stuff in "Cold Mountain" very well, nor did I like his work in "The English Patient," but I didn't hate it. I didn't find myself watching either movie and thinking too myself, "wow, this is a nice soundtrack." What I have heard all sounds a bit formulatic and uninspired. Now, the music from his other movies I have not heard, as I didn't want to see the movies. If you can recommend any of his work (especially specific tracks) that may sway me, please tell me.

And I take very little stock in the Academy awards.
