cold mountain soundtrack is quite good   Friday, February 25, 2005 (3:32 p.m.)

After watching Cold Mountain on cable quite a lot recently, I am so impressed with the music from the film that I am buying the soundtrack. I read the review here and have to disagree with the overall assessment of this music. I find that all of music from the film is very appropriate, extremely haunting and very beautiful. I loved the bluegrass, and the score is also beautifully done. I disagree that the end result is somehow disconnected. The music is starkly contrasted at times in the film, which seems intentional, given the sadness of the story. All in all, a masterful film: a bittersweet love story, a story about friendship, and an interesting take on the Civil War about an area (southern Appalachia)largely ignored in Civil War epics. This movie deserved awards. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was perhaps a bit too long...well over two hours. But I highly recommend the film and the music.
