• Now Playing: Cowboys And Aliens

Hi,

I have to agree fully. You as usual hit the nail on the head for all the essential points. This really was a missed opportunity for a fusion of genre's not seen before. I managed to extract enough for a pleasant suite, but like you I expected and wanted more.

All the best.

Hi Craig,

I'm curious, what tracks did you include in your suite?

HGW is by no means a favourite composer of mine - not even in my top 20. Cowboys and Aliens represents a typical HGW listening experience for me since Kingdom of Heaven - I really enjoy the main theme (in this case Track 1), but I find the rest of the underscore rather uninteresting and doesn't warrent repeat listening. As CC mentioned in his review, the heroic rendition of the main theme at the end of "I See Them" is a highlight, but those are few and far between.

The only HGW score since Kingdom of Heaven I can listen to from beginning to end is Gone Baby Gone, but I really like the main themes for Narnia (Aslan's theme), Wolverine, Unstoppable, The Town. Cowbows and Aliens continues that trend.

When he writes in full orchestral mode, I don't think he writes bad music, but it just doesn't appeal to me. His music is very serviceable in the context of his movies, however.

Regards,
Damien.
