Clemmensen is an idiot   Sunday, December 28, 2008 (2:59 p.m.)

Anyone who knows anything about film music has figured out that Benjamin Button is one of top five of the year. Except for Clemmensen, who needs much more professional training before his opinion can be taken seriously.

Why does one need training in order to express a personal opinion?

I think the score is wonderful, but the gentleman is, as ever, entitled to dislike it just as you and I are to like it.

Music isn't about training, technique, technology, and education. It's about the emotional reaction it provokes in the listener - and it is the height of ignorance to expect everybody to react the same way. Music is a personal experience and thus can only elect a personal reaction.

Clemmenson is not an idiot - he just didn't like something you liked. That's the spice of life!

Now wait a minute. While it may be in 2008's Top 5, those 5 were all 3 star efforts when you look out the bigger window of 10-15 years of modern film music.
And if you compare Desplat's scores from 2001 to Now, you can tell Benjamin Button is somewhere in the middle.
I would also agree with a 4 star rating for Bejamin. But because of the cheap soft paper packaging the score comes in, I would take away a star from the package as a whole. Perhaps thats what Clemmensen did.
