Comments about the soundtrack for Dick Tracy (Danny Elfman)
OK Score... Amazing songs

OK Score... Amazing songs   Wednesday, February 4, 2004 (9:43 p.m.)

Buy the Madonna "I'm Breathless" CD instead of this one. Yes, I know... it's Madonna. But the Sondheim songs on that CD--Sooner or Later, More, and What Can You Lose--are easily the highlight of this movie. In fact, Madonna even gives them an OK performance (someday, though, heaven will pity us and send us a new recording of all 5 songs from Dick Tracy... someday). The score in the film works pretty well, and there are some really excellent swellings of Tess' theme, but mostly the score album is incoherent and only occasionally inspired. But the star of Dick Tracy was the songs, particularly the Academy Award-winning Sooner or Later. Simply delightful.
