Yes, Goldsmith was indeed the original credited composer to this score. I give you credit for mentioning that important detail, as a lot of the thematic portion of the score sounds mysteriously close to Goldsmith's work. There unfortunately isn't enough interest in this score (although it is quite interesting), to get people motivated to really find out. However; a lot of A-list composers will release their music or new music that they have written for a particular composer for a uncommon situation. Recall John Williams in the case of Jurrasic Park 3. Steven Speilberg was not directing the movie which probably made Williams loose interest in the project and pass it on to Don Davis. Williams knew that he did not want to score Jurrasic Park 3, however he did not want Davis to be out on a limb without the traditional Jurrasic Park themes. Maybe Mancina heard what Goldsmith had done before his hospital-ization; and spoke with Goldsmith about letting him use his work. It was probably out of respect for Goldsmith (since he is such a great force in film scoring); and also because he felt it worked with the film too well to ignore. I myself have not gotten this score yet, but I would like to know if you have seen any mention of Goldsmith inside the CD. If Goldsmith truly did write the main overall theme in the first track, then he should be credited for it. Just as John Williams is credited as being the original composer to some themes in Jurrasic Park 3.
