You're saying the Russians didn't kill their own soldiers? I don't know who you think you are, giving that kind of information out.
The NKVD (later known as KGB) was responsible for thousands of executions of Soviet soldiers, during the second World War.
"Not a step backwards", truly was their policy at the time. Anyone who was suspected of any kind of offence towards the policy of the Party and the whole country, could get shot. An offence could be e.g. a self-made injury, deserting, sleeping on guard, drinking, refusing to attack, any kind of negative comment on the party or its policy, morale decreasing comments on the success of the fighting, the list goes on forever...

You should really do some background checking before coming here and giving out false information.
