100 million would have been below expectations 20 years ago. Today, for an R-rated film with a cast of ageing action stars (none of which have any significant drawing power on their own) to garner 100 million $ in the USA and an additionnal 130 million abroad is a minor triumph. The box-office predictions didn't think the movie would pass the 50 millions mark domestically.
The movie has tripled its budget and will no doubt have mammoth sales on DVD (based on how a film like RAMBO performed on the DVD market).
And in the end, there's no way THE OTHER GUYS or EAT PRAY LOVE will have earned more than THE EXPENDABLES worldwide. And yet, these are PG-13 films...
