It Just Doesnt Fit In   Monday, May 25, 2009 (5:05 p.m.)
• Now Playing: Run -Leona Lewis

The film was absolutly AMAZING, but what i honestly dont get is, why the hell did square hire a completely new member to the team? it was a HUGE risk and they knew that the fans of final fantasy most probably wanted to hear yet another outragous, fantastic original score from the more animated and memorable composer, Nobuo Uematsu. i think having someone else compose this movies music has made a very big effect (and a bad one at that) on the whole entire series soundtracks. i think after this film people thought that the later games in the series would carry on this poor, unexciting soundtrack which really doesnt get stuck in your head like songs composed by Uematsu such as "liberi fatali" (FFVIII) and "One Winged Angel" (FFVII). i for one was hoping for a slightly querky style of sound in the film, unlike the very serious militery theme going on. i know the film was based around this (which actually had nothing to do with the game series..huge let down) but they could have made it less "wait i've heard this from another film? or does it all just sound the same to me".
Im not saying that the new adition to the sound team is a crap composer, but tbh...on the subject of final fantasy ... Uematsu knocks spots off this guy, he seriously has no s*** on him.
Im just glad when they made Advent Children... Uematsu created the fantastic musical score for this. he knows what the fans want soundtrack wise. he should stay with square. he puts a whole new atmosphere into every single game, and film. the composer of Sprits within, does NOT do this on this occasion im afraid.

Fanboy detected.

Also, although it's been ages I feel like adding something to my previous comment. I think these comments, from quite a while ago, are quite applicable here.

>I'd suggest studying the man's work as a whole before you even attempt at the possibility of a thought of an inkling before you bash him.

>The above argument is both asinine and completely appalling in common sense. Comparing a music composer for a GAME to a film composer is like comparing apples to oranges. They may both be music, but both have EXTREMELY different flavors.

>Please, don't ever even put the name of some game composer up to Goldenthal's level. It's demeaning.

I've been a game composer for a couple years now. And to be honest, this man speaks the truth. Goldenthal is a genius, especially compared to game composers

Speaks the truth? No, screw that guy and his rank snobbery. Goldenthal is a very talented composer, but there's no need to sneer at Uematsu as "some game composer" to qualify Goldenthal's achievements in "The Spirit Within."
