Cool score

Cool score   Friday, September 4, 2009 (8:20 p.m.)

I love this score. Funny that the reviewer (who sounds like it's got a grudge or something) feels this is just another Remote Control clone. Sounds pretty much like vintage Silvestri to me, a throwback to the style of The Long Kiss Goodnight and Eraser. The electronic elements are well-balanced with the orchestra and never overwhelm the score. Sure, the themes could have been a little more memorable, but the rest of the material is pretty top notch. I've had the CD on repeat for weeks now.

And the film itself is pretty darn cool, much closer to and respectful of its source material than the Transformers movies. Sommers doesn't rely on the rapid-fire editing style that usually causes so many headaches, and he can stage fast-paced action sequences that never get jumbled up and that retain a sense of geography in being able to tell who's who, where they are, and what they're doing. He also knows to keep his movies tight and compact, never overstaying their welcome.

And the 9/11 comment... I'm sorry, but that was just dumb. This guy's not a very good reviewer if this one is any indication.
