Hardly. I totally agree with him. This review is NOT well researched. Cliché chord progressions? Hahahahaha. Try Lord of the Rings for clichés of epic proportions.

This score is a true masterpiece by Elfman, and represents some of his best work as of late. The orchestration is extremely well done. Much more interesting than any scores I've heard recently. The electronica elements are interweaved in a masterful way and the ethnic blends are done in a refreshing and playful fashion.

It's definitely a 5/5 stars score. Both on album and in the movie.

Christians lack of knowledge pertaining orchestral techniques and instrumentation can be somewhat misleading in his reviews, and since he tends to write a lot about it, it makes him look a tad stupid at times. I don't think he's capable of writing reviews of orchestral scores since he obviously doesn't know enough about the technical aspects of music surrounding the production of one.

He looks for a strong melodic theme to carry a score. If not present he will (perhaps unconsciously) rate the score as a *** or less.

I dont have ANYTHING personal against Christian at all. His opinion isn't worth a dime to me, though. I understand his love for the art and his dedication (this site has a wealth of information!), but orchestral film music is a very special niché. One that reviews it should have a thorough understanding of what it is all about, otherwise it's just your average joe doing the review and what good is that.
