I really think that people were wrong about the score of this amazingly beautiful yet dark movie. Like the author of the review i also have had a hard time fitting in to the real world and so find my 'sanctuary' in books. I saw the movie when i was quite young and have now rediscovered it. the story line intrigued me so much i went and borrowed the book by victor Hugo. my favourite songs have come from alan Menkins' movies and i believe that this one is no different. i come home every day and want to watch or listen to this movie. my younger sister recieved the soundtrack as her first CD when she was about 5 and she loved it even though it is quite dark. my favourite song is heavens light/hellfire because of the darkness you feel. i don't think that the comical songs of the score are out of place because they help to lighten the mood. inm all i think this movie and score deserves another chance. i also loved the hunchback of Notre Dame ll.
