track-"return of the jedi"??? please help   Friday, July 29, 2005 (12:02 p.m.)

both the old 80's verison soundtracks contrain a track called "The Return of the Jedi" (each slightly diff length), but this track doesnt appear on the RCA complete score albums, i was wondering what this track was--is it some form of concert or suite arrangement, or it is various movie scenes??

thanks

Listen to it - it's just "Sail Barge Assault", probably renamed due to the lack of meaning in the original title. According to Michael Matessino (in an interview), the title "Return of the Jedi" refers to Darth Vader turning back to the light side of the Force, i.e. the Jedi Anakin Skywalker returning.

Having said that, it could also mean the return of the Jedi Order, i.e. the one that Luke starts - apparently, like many of the Star Wars titles, there could be several meanings.

You may also notice, on the other RCA albums, that "The Desert/Robot Auction" was renamed to "The Dune Sea of Tatooine" and "The Moisture Farm" (these are actually separate cues), "The Little People Work" became "Jawa Sandcrawler", "The Princess Appears" became "Hologram/Binary Sunset", "The Land of the Sand People" became "Landspeeder Search/Attack of the Sand People", "Return Home" became "Burning Homestead", "A Hive of Villainy" became "Mos Eisley Spaceport", "Inner City" (three cues) became "The Death Star", "Tales of a Jedi Knight" and "The Millennium Falcon", "Mouse Robot/Blasting Off" became "Wookiee Prisoner" and "Imperial Cruiser Pursuit", "Rescue of the Princess" became "Shootout in the Cell Bay" and "Chasm Crossfire", "The Walls Converge" became "The Trash Compactor" and "Dianoga", "The Last Battle" became "Detention Block Ambush", "The Tractor Beam" and the second half of "The Battle of Yavin".

In The Empire Strikes Back, "The Imperial Probe" became "The Ice Planet Hoth", "Luke's Escape" became "The Wampa's Lair", "Luke's Rescue" became "Snow Speeders Take Flight", "The Battle of Hoth" contained the cues "Drawing the Battle Lines", "Leia's Briefing", "Battle in the Snow", "Luke's First Crash" and "The Rebels Escape Again", "The Duel" became "The Clash of the Lightsabers", "Losing a Hand" became "Rescue from Cloud City".

From Return of the Jedi, "Fight in the Dungeon" became "The Den of the Rancor", as I mentioned above, "Return of the Jedi" became "Sail Barge Assault", "The Emperor Confronts Luke" became "The Emperor's Throne Room", "Through the Flames" became "The Main Reactor", and much of "The Battle of Endor" tracks were split up.

There are probably more, but I can't think of them now. Michael Matessino mentioned in the liner notes of, I think "A New Hope", that many cues had been retitled to make it more clear which part of the film they underscore.

This track was from the part on Tatooine where Luke jumps and spins and then somersaults back onto the skiff. Basically the battle over Tatooine. It's one of my favorite tracks on the album.
