Badelt's "Pirates..." soundtrack is by far his best!

Badelt's "Pirates..." soundtrack is by far his best!   Friday, July 11, 2003 (10:45 a.m.)

Klaus Badelt has now in my eyes made a name for himself. His music for the new outstanding movie, Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, is great. It had a great and moving theme. If one listens closely enough, one can hear a bit of familiar music from Zimmer's work THE RING. It is a great movie and a great score. The actors also did a splendid job. Yeah, yeah, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom did a good job, but my main man Geoffrey Rush as well as Kiera Knightley were outstanding. Go and see it before it's too late!

I'd agree with jsut about everything you said. I loved the film and the score. I loved the rythmic and brassy pirate theme that's heard at the end of the film during the dueling sequences. I can't wait until this score comes out!

I want to know if (when) he will play live! i would love to see the orchestra at work. I have been listning to the 'pirates' music almost non-stop, I almost think it's better than the movie itself. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie as well. Does anybody know what i'm talking about?

I agree that the Pirates of the Caribbean score is amazing, but I don't agree that it's Badelt's best. While it certainly is the most action oriented score he's written and certainly boasts that fact, I still find his score to The Time Machine to be his best. That is a truly moving score with a great blend of symphonic and electronic scoring with some absolutely amazing themes. My favourite cue on that album and that Badelt has written is in Track 13-The Master starting at 1:27 until the end. I remember not really being much of a film music buff, kind of just tuning it out being a teenager and all, and when I sat in the cinema and heard that piece my heart broke. It really accentuated that scene of a lost life so much so that I almost cried....now that's scary.

Not only that cue though, the entire album is a masterpiece. Truly if your a fan of Badelt get that score. It's amazing, but if you are really looking for another Pirates bit then The Time Machine won't really help you. But you're absolutely right, I'd certainly higher Klaus Badelt to score my films.

• Now Playing: I Don't Belong Here - The Time Machine

Rubbish. The first Pirates score is a massive mess of over-synthesized rubbish, and I'm still wondering how in HELL it got to be so popular. Compare PotC - Badelt's worst (and most popular) work, to The Time Machine - his best. Or don't, since there's no comparison. Time Machine is ethnically varied, colorful and epic on a more intelligent scale. Pirates is a huge rehash of what we all heard in Gladiator, just with less orchestra and more badly mixed electronics.

The only good thing that can be said about PotC 1 is that it provided a good base for PotC 3, which remains one of my favorite soundtracks of all time!

Whose music for Pirates of the Caribbean? As far as I know, Hans Zimmer wrote the majority of the music and Klaus Badelt's name was only tacked on for contractual reasons. Besides, the Pirates (One, because I love the music for 2 and especially 3) music is pretty boring if you ask me. What moving theme are you talking about? They're all just bombastic and almost identical, a bit annoying after a while. If you want to hear really good Badelt music, go for the Time Machine.
