I get the impression that the reviewer is using this piece to bash Thomas Newman, who I think is a tremendous talent and innovator, and not let this score's brilliance stand on its own. This score is highly emotive and added depth and emotion to the movie. I personally put it in my top 10 scores of all time! A comparison to Thomas Newman's work only confirms the brilliance of the score.
This reviewer ought to consider retiring from the field of soundtrack as he/she comes off as some sort of audiophile, elitist, snob who values his opinions so highly that perhaps should he/she should keep them to himself.
