I liked your review of the score itself, and I agree wholeheartedly about Shore's incredible work. But I think you've mistaken the "regular" CD release, which does (annoyingly) have multiple covers, for the actual limited edition release. My copy of the limited edition came in a red "leather-like" cover, which contains a book of artwork different from what's included in the regular release.
Check out http://www.velocity.net/~sirtoby/lotr1.jpg to see the outside cover, and http://www.velocity.net/~sirtoby/lotr2.jpg to see the insert booklet.
There is no "character card" insert of any kind. I still deplore the record label's release of multiple covers for the regular release, but the limited edition really is something different. My weblink also contained no advertisements, just a link to the special content, although it did still ask for my email. My guess is that the weblink on the regular release includes an ad for the limited edition release.
But enough about the packaging! This score is AMAZING, no matter what edition you own!!!
