I thought the score was highly intelligent. His use of percussion in some of the score is fantastically written. Personally, I fail to see why Williams' should make references to every portion of the prequel soundtrack, as you seem so disappointed about. The new themes are well designed, and have a primitive aspect to them -- gone is the wonder and majesty of the original island, and in place we have a theme embellishing the primitive dangerous foreboding nature of Site B. While I agree not every track is worth making it onto ones playlist -- that's not enough to outweigh what is presented. I'd point to another William's score, Prisoner of Azkaban, which is regarded by quite a few, as the best of the Harry Potter scores. It takes a large departure from its prequels as well, introducing new themes and material that dominate the score. I'm not saying that "Lost World" is equivalent to PoA -- I feel the score is not only successful considering its film material, I believe it stands out. The score is not for everyone. But I do think some people would appreciate the use of dissonance in the score -- the darker more archaic, slightly claustrophobic tones defining the musical palette -- the progressive tribal percussion.
