Hello. I've been scouring the net but have been so far unsuccessful in finding the full sanskrit and translated lyrics for the song "Navras", the remix of Don Davis' "Neodammerung" (sp?). I've found the lyrics for Don Davis' version, a link to his site is at the very bottom of the review page... but when listening to Navras, while the chorus in the same, it sounds like it has some other verses in there which I can't make out. I'm not sure if they use the same verses as Neodammerung, but my guess is there are differences in lyrics as Navras contains the chant "om shanti shanti shanti" which I never hear during Neodammerung.

Is there anyone out there a bit more knowledgable who perhaps knows more about the full lyrics? I stripped this from the Don Davis website... this is what I know so far:

Brhadaranyaka Upanisad 1.3.28
asato ma sad gamaya
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
mrtyor mamrtam gamaya

translation:
From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
From death lead me to immortality.

It also seems like the spelling isn't consistent with some other sites I've looked at. "asato ma sad gamaya" I've seen as "asatoma sadgamaya"... anyone sure of the correct spelling/spacing?

well to my opinion they say Mazal Tov, which is hebrew/latin. That would be appropiate cause the translation is "Congradulation" or "Good Luck" oh well it has many meanings... I'm from israel and i know the languege and i swear it's Mazal Tov. It's like a blessing. The rest i don't know...

If you're talking about the very first line in the song, then I'm pretty sure it's "asotoma sadgamaya" or whatever is was I posted earlier. That's the choir singing that... but then there's a series of verses where a male and a female are singing (seperately of course).

Anyone know of an official Juno Reactor site that might have some lyrics?

I don't think it means that, actually, since the language, is, in fact, Sanskrit.

There's even a little bit of German in this soundtrack...

You can divide "Neodämmerung" into "Neo" (name of the main character *g*) und "Dämmerung" (which is the german word for dusk or dawn)

there can be "Dämmerung" in the morning and in the evening... it's just a state between light and darkness.

Actually, "Dämmerung" means twilight.

Mazal Tov: Part of the 1st verse admittedly could be interpreted to sound like "Mazal Tov", but I think that is just an audio perception thing. Besides, it's only part of what's heard; what would the rest of it say/mean if it were Jewish/Latin? (rhetorical question)

Neodämmerung: Interesting that you and ddc mention that. Perhaps it's another clue/red herring on the question of Neo's fate, hence the prayer. Is Neo really dead, or is he in limbo? Can one know for sure? We see him carried off on a barge by a machine, but so what? What's going to happen to him in the custody of the machines? And if he's dead, then where is his Matrix avatar body?

I noticed that while Neo was hauled off, we are briefly shown the 'machine lifeforce'-whatever image, which seems to resemble a menorah. A menorah is supposed to symbolize the 7 days of Creation, but I still don't know what to make of it. Anyone care to interpret that?

I heard Mazal Tov too! No matter what the lyrics ACTUALLY are, the effect was pretty strong.
I just sat there in total awe as these words seemed to go right into my bones!! A certain air of jewishness is felt throughout the film, so I thought it's only appropriate to have such an ending for such a film.

The lyrics are thus - I should know this because the lyrics are a hindu prayer that I say daily in the morning before I go to work (i'm a hindu).

OK, i believe that you do say that everyday. I say Mazal Tov every time i'm at a wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, etc. that doesn't really prove anything

Ya, the movies are filled with Jewish hints. Their home city is Zion (Zion is another name for Israel- think Zionist)The ship is the Nebacanezzar.(that one takes a little more knowledge of jewish history, their was a great villian of the jewish people named Nevachanezzar)and now they put the words "mazal tov" in the credits! but i'm pretty sure they put just as many hints to every other religion. don't take it to seriously. it's Hollywood.

Yea and maybe they take shabat in the beginning, and Neo's extrication from the little tube thing, thats like a circumcision. And the first time they wrote the script, they had Agent smith come out and say "Oy Vey!" instead of "Mr. Anderson".

The first line is a well known sanskrit verse.

"Asatomaa sat gamaya" - go from untruth to truth.

Finally these people paid respect to the culture and religion from which they pretty much borrowed entirely from to make this movie.

I also thought at first it says "Mazal Tov". In fact, that's how I found the name of this song... I searched Google and found this thread. I guess I wasn't smart enough to just check the original soundtrack information.

That said, it's definitely not saying "Mazal Tov". I think you (and I) may have heard that because we speak Hebrew, and it does sound a bit like it. If you know the series M.K. 22 (mem-kuf-22) on Bip, they used this track in one of the the shows, and by the context I think the producers also thought it says "Mazal Tov". And it would certainly make sense to say "Mazal Tov" at the end of the movie (which, by the way, was plain bad). BUT - it's not.

i doubt they say mazal tov. the whole ending credits is in sanskrit, the ancient language of india. asato ma sad gamaya, tamaso ma jyotir gamaya, mrityor ma amritam gamaya is an ancient hindu prayer along with most everything else said. i have just come across this fact and i havent heard anything in the ending credits which isnt sanskrit, which i am partially fluent in.

Another chant, sung by a man, is "Om aditya ya namo namaha" which is a prayer to the sun; Aditya is a Vedic name for the sun. Aditya was also the 7th (Neo reaches his 7th incarnation in Revolutions) and chief celestial deity in early Vedic times. I still can't figure out what the woman is singing.

I don't know very well sanskrit only a few notions and my english pronounciation is horrible. I tried a few weeks ago to write the full Navras lyrics, 'cause I love it. Please do not feel offended if I'm wrong. All verses with (??) means I 'm not sure at all.

Asata ma sadgamaya can also be written as asatamasadgamaya. Both are same. because in sanskrit there is a special grammatical term called SANDHI. after sandhi, asata ma sadgamaya becomes asatama sadgamaya. There ase 12 adItyas. Sun is one of them. Vishnu is also one oF them. I tHink here aditya means visnu.

The spelling is just helpful to pronounce sanskrit using english text...

asatoma is same as asato ma ... you can even write it as asatomasadgamaya...as it is pronounced in a line without much pause.

I absolutely hear mazaltov and then I hear a sound like "messiah". I know that these are not the lyrics but it sounds that way. I don't speak Hebrew but I can hear that. Besides all the movie has like huges symbols about the Bible. The messiah (neo), the resurrection on neo, him dying for the humanity, the promise land: sion, neducadnessar and many many other that anyone who has some knowledge about the Bible can see.
Whatever the lyrics are, I'm sure it is meant to sound that way even if the "real lyrics" are different.
I don't speak currently English so I might have done some mistakes, sorry about that, however the main message stays comprehensible, to my opinion.

Hope this discussion is not too old and that someone will answer to this post!
