The editorial review must have been written by an academic snob or worse, an industry insider with a hatchet to grind. Harmonically, Newman's romantic theme with its novel chord progression "takes you somewhere", then brings you back to the basic fundamental, lowering you from the ecstatic moment back to stark reality. It's Death, after all.
