Alan Silvestri surprises me   Friday, May 25, 2001 (12:11 p.m.)

When I first heard that Alan Silvestri should compose the Mummy Returns score i got disappointed. I thought he only could compose scores for drama-films such as Forrest Gump and Cast Away, and not fully orchestrated action-scores.

I really liked the first Mummy film, where Jerry Goldsmith did a very good job with his score. It sounded very Egyptian. Silvestri has not managed to create the same Egyptian feeling and essence, but he managed something far more important in the sequel. He created a much better action-score than Goldsmith, in my opinion the best action-score since the brilliant Cutthroat Island score by John Debney. The Mummy Returns album is not perfect, by all means, sometimes it can be a rather boring listen, but most of the album is a pleasure listening to. Congratulations Alan, you did a great piece of work here

And I must say ; The movie itself is very entertaining. The special-effects may be a little weak, but the movie is so full of action and humour that it doesnt matter. And Rachel Weisz is a major plus. The score matches the movie quite well, maybe not brilliant, but well. So i have no complains about neither the movie or the score. See the movie and buy the score people!
