Is the main title a ripoff of Superman? Maybe, but it wouldn't be alone in that. Listen to Cliff Eidelman's theme to The Meteor Man.

I wouldn't exactly say it is a ripoff of superman. It is very superman-ish, but the composition is completely different. This similarity is what is known as in film music as role modeling. The most notable examples of this can be found comparing William's works with Wagner.
