End of the Spear!!!!   Sunday, February 12, 2006 (8:57 a.m.)

I happen to enjoy the New World..but it is truly not a classic....though highly relaxing and enjoyable..
if you are interested in hearing a great ethnic score that came out around the same time..
check out END OF THE SPEAR...
this music is gorgeous
there is the "feel good" Horner sound to it..but also the tragic..and beautiful melancholy of Hans Zimmer..
also actiony choir music..in the realm of Ennio Morricone (think the Mission) and Jerry Goldsmith....
I love this score..and say it is one of the best of the year...check it out! i don't think you'll be dissapointed...
soloists featured...are
acoustic guitar, vocals..usually two women..beautifully interwoven, ethnic flutes, and orchestral flutes, and choir...violin is also used beautifully...

Regarding the "End of the Spear" soundtrack....it is quite good, and I give it an easy 3.5 stars out of five. The only thing keeping it from a solid four 1/2 is the fact that the composer Ron Owen did not have access to a premiere orchestra...which would have really helped to flush out his incredible themes and melodies!!
