Check out Xenosaga score.
It's a video game that was released on the PS2 and oh boy is the soundtrack beautiful!

Yes, it does seem like lately more and more video games are starting to put a strong emphasis on a good soundtrack. This is a good thing. For that matter, it seems like Hollywood is going the way of cookie-cutter synth soundtracks more often, and the more creative/interesting scores are coming from games. There has also been some cross-polination as well. Bruce Broughton and Harry Gregson-Williams have both scored games recently.
