I am partial to a bit of Zimmer myself, but your comment confuses the bejesus out of me....why post this on the Prometheus review? You have the ramblings of a rump-fed ronyan.

i too have had issues with his reviews, but being a relatively young and new listener (12 years now) to film music/soundtracks, i understand the frustrations he has with not so much hans, but the remote control productions sound and takeover of blockbuster movie soundtracks. when it was just hans, it was new and appealing. it was his style. but now, every major block buster film/action movie, has this mundane, over the top, attempt at sounding like hans, but comes nowhere close. honestly, it's sickening. these "simple" scores are pathetic. frankly, i'm tired of hearing them. now, i will give prometheus credit...it strays from the RCP prototype.

i too have written long messages on this site bashing christian and his hate for hans zimmer, but i don't think it's hate for hans. it's a disgust at the movie studios and how they have ran with this bland, simple template for soundtrack music, taking the art and beauty out of film scores.

i'll at least give hans this credit...he has a style and it works for him. and the trained ear can differentiate a hans score from an rcp score. they are better, more developed, and just go beyond the mundane sound of rcp composers.

I've never been a big Zimmer fan. But at least his music is distinctive & well written. The same cannot be said for many of his Remote Control cronies. Trevor Rabin & Steve Jablonsky, for example, are virtually indistinguishable from each other, as are their repetitive scores. It's a definite detriment to film music. Although some, such as Brian Tyler & Ramin Djawadi have successfully moved out of Zimmer's shadow & created a style all their own. Others, such as Klaus Badelt (who can create a great orchestral score for one film & then a bland, generic noisy mess the next), are hit or miss. Give me a full orchestra with clean bombast & sweeping melodies any day.

That's silly. Kindergarten level. Probably a german member of hans-zimmer.com.
Prometheus is a score of questionable quality. Absolutely predictable, ridiculous quotes ("Friend from the past"), mostly generic.
This is not the worst score from the remote control sound factory. But also not a particularly good one. Three stars are more than enough.
