Great point -- but his adaptation is great, but I mean...why not just write a new one? His willingness to sacrifice his creativity in exchange for other works was always baffling to me. I see a lot of this in his Star Trek scores, more so the later ones -- the reintroduction of the Klingon theme, for example, was really nice, but did we really need that? Williams' connections, musically, have always been very clear, but I've found Goldsmith's to be quite clumsy at times.
Goldsmith did a winner here, but it's true the theme wasn't his.
