I was curious about this translation too and found some info on it. I think (not 100% sure) Oyf'n pripetshok is yiddish for "on the hearth" and Nacht Aktion is "night action". which would be "on the hearth and night action" which doesn't really make much sense but thats what i found. let me know if you find out for sure.

I learnt this song in grade school...I can't remember the lyrics exactly, but I believe it is about the Warsaw Ghetto and how the Jews hid from the SS troopers in the night and moreso about the children how they hid in the floorboards, the walls, etc..."Kinder" is children in Yiddish. Unfortunately my yiddish has gone a bit rusty. Hopefully this is of help to you.

The song is about the children singing their ABC's actually. They would sing the teaching song while these terrors were happening to try to dissociate themselves from it, a way to get away from the terror. email me if you want the exact translation, i've got the score.

I don't know the exact source for pripetshok but i think heart is very good. Nacht Aktion is german and the title has nothing to do with the first one. It means that they were title in one song. During the movie scene the chorus sings the song OYF'N pripetshok and the following is the clearence of the Ghetto which was called from the SS as "Nacht Aktion" as a kind of operation code.

Thank you for the Yiddish text of the song! My grandmother used to sing it to me, but unfortunately I do not remember it in Yiddish, only in Russian. "Pripetshok" evidently comes from Russian (or other Slavonic source): "´Ŕ´ň¸ňŕ" [pripetschek] which means a part of oven/stove.
