I can only disagree with the reviewer on this. The opening title music is, if anything, way above the film that follows-if the movie matched the atmosphere created in the opening credits it would have been a classic!- from the crackle of the gramophone music and the unnearving stillness of the images and into the opening strings it creats a very dream like quality, must like the train journey further into the film. I do agree that the compilation of the soundtrack was poor but i think this was down to a lack of money rather than artistic ineptitude. It is a shame that a better movie did not follow such a wonderful opening.
