Who is better, Powell or Gregson-Williams?   Saturday, July 5, 2003 (7:15 p.m.)

Interesting question seeing as they both scored films together for a while. But now that they are scoring films seperately, who is better? Personally I like Powell better. But thats just me. What do you all think?

They have two very different styles of scoring - this explains why Evolution (Powell) does not sound like The Tigger Movie (Williams). I personally like the way Powell scores animated movies better, but I prefer the way HG-W scores action movies better. However they're at their best when scoring together (Chicken Run is one of my favorite MV scores). It's a very close call

John Powell and Harry Gregson-Williams have evolved so much from Antz/Shrek/Chicken Run collaboration.. i enjoy both of their music very much.. but for now John Powell is in the lead.. but with Sinbad and Veronica Guerin under his belt, GW is coming up quickly.. the thing i really like about John Powell isn't only his thematic material but the huge emphasis on different rhythms that u hear all the time.. its never straight string materiall..always a twist somehow..

To me, it's clearly Gregson Williams, a composer I'm appreciating more and more.
