... but the Varese-Album is a disappointment in several respects.
First, less than half of the music actually featured in the film, appears on the album. Secondly, the music included is badly out of order.
Gone missing are some exellent cues, including a dramatic piece written for a central scene where the Hoffman-Character confronts the Stone-Character, a short but bombastic appearence of the Main Theme played during the scene where the Jackson-Character enters the Sphere and several other cues of tense and dissonant underscore. Also gone is the hopeful and majestic last cue for the final scene. On the CD there are several notable and important action-cues and 'The Gift' which was played three times during the film.
But its not a well rounded album. It has no real conclusion, no finale, no (excuse me the pun) depth... thats why I'm waiting for a bootleg which will feature all the powerful, thoughtful and beautiful music from the film.
Music as heard on Album: ** 1/2 (*** for some Tracks, ** for others)
