Given the ridiculous releases of Giacchino's Star Trek scores, it might actually be more worthwhile to just wait for the full release and judge that instead.

I actually do think it's a 4 star work. I feel like CC doesn't talk enough about the often very good action material in these scores. That compensates quite well for two weak villain themes.

I wasn't a fan of the action music at all to be honest. Very was shrill and unrelenting (just like the scenes they accompany).

I agree. Some of the action cues are not even listenable. I thought his review was spot on. The best materials of the score are derivatives of the main theme. And Giacchino doesn't do enough with the new themes to really amplify their impact.
