I can't go all the way and agree this score is better than TWOK, but the album release omits some great music and overall the score is simply underrated. "Stealing the Enterprise" is by far the most exciting and one of the more complex pieces of music ever to be found in a Trek film. The triumphant nautical sounding reprise of Alexander Courage's theme as the ship escapes into warp is stunning. The score could hang its hat on that bit of music alone, but the rest of it uniformaly excellent. I wish they had included the music for the destruction of the Enterprise and Escape from Genesis, brief but outstanding cues. Khan still gets my preference for the shear novelty of Horner's music, but Spock is still an excellent Trek score and one of Horner's best.
