There was an article on musicfromthemovies. Jerry's score was exactly what Donner asked for. But then Donner realised that the film needed more drive. And therefore it was recut and anything. Jerry was asked to change the style of the score form actual music to "edge of the seat" style, but refused to and was "allowed of" the picture.
I like this better the "rejected", because it wasn't.
