Ah yes, yet another poke at MV   Thursday, September 4, 2003 (8:57 p.m.)

If you're so insistent on mentioning PIRATES, all I have to say that TR2 doesn't hold a candle to PIRATES, especially thematically (say what you will about it, but PIRATES was one of MV's most thematically-focused scores in years comparatively). And if you're comparing the synths/electronics use in the two scores, PIRATES sounds a heck of a lot better than the synthetic 'beats' in TR2. Now if Silvestri HAD composed a score more in the vein of The Mummy Returns, we wouldn't be having this discussion (because that is so obviously a great score).

Maybe it's right what you said. But maybe the flaw in PotC was not the lack of theme but the reuse of themes. And maybe it wasn't the electronic nature of the score but the fact that is was inappropriate for the genre.

Itís only fair to mention that a very talented action and adventure composer was dropped for a gang students.

POTC is entertaining, but hardly original. It sounds far too much like THE ROCK, and has nothing against Silvestri's TOMB RAIDER score. TR I can listen to over and over again, but POTC grew old really fast.

No one is arguing that POTC is original; but neither is TR2. It sounds like a retread of The Long Kiss Goodnight and Mission: Impossible (Rejected Score) with bits and pieces of The Mummy Returns thrown in for the sake of having an orchestra. The theme is nothing special when compared to everything else Silvestri has composed.

The last time I tried to listen to TR2, I fell asleep during the middle (which has never happened before). There is just too much underscore that rambles on and on (I have never liked Silvestri's use of electronics; too 1980s-ish, like Delta Force). That is something that POTC has over TR2 - there are moments throughout the score (on a continual basis) that keep it from becoming boring.

How is this post productive? (and what is this, a double-standard? Everyone ELSE can compare scores but me? I'm not just throwing random comparisons out like "Hey, both TR2 and POTC suck")

I don't get your point but since I've made enough comments in the Pirates of the Rock section, I don't want to discuss this here again.
