That might actually be the reason for all his music "declining". Like tinnitus he can't get rid of it and can't write scores anymore...

Or he just was under such enormous pressure that he couldn't think of anything else in that time...

Which must be sort of true, even the "Troy" theme seems to be some weird mutilation of that motif.
