Upon listening to this beautiful score, I am fondly reminded of Ralph Vaughan Williams' "The Lark Ascending." In fact, the two sound so similar you could probably substitute a minute of the Vaughan Williams for a minute Newton Howard's score and you probably would not be able to tell the difference! However, this minor comparison should not detract from the fact that "The Village" is one of Newton Howard's more sublime musical efforts and to this day continues to enchant, just like a great classical piece of music.
