Filmtracks Links

Back in 1996, there were just three top level domain sites in the film score community: Filmmusic.com, MovieTunes, and Filmtracks. Alas, how things have changed! With Filmtracks the only original, surviving spirit of the three, one would think that we'd have an all-encompassing links section. But this group of links of not at all comprehensive (in other words, we don't go out and actively seek new sites to add). The longevity at Filmtracks has afforded us the opportunity to get to know many of the webmasters who run the sites listed, and they are all recommended sites as a source for film music information. This list of links below pertains only to film score web sites, with entries for sites which specialize in reviews, databases, individual composers, radio shows, album production, and collectibles. As usual, if you encounter a broken or outdated link, send Filmtracks an e-mail about it and we'll spank those disobedient ones. This links page is re-compiled every 18 months or so, with the most recent major revision in January, 2001. If you have a new film music site you'd link to be listed here in the next revision, send over an e-mail and introduce yourself, and your site will be put on the list to be added.

A note about our refusal to link certain sites: Filmtracks strongly believes in well designed sites that emphasize accessibility as well as creativity. Sites that require Java Scripting and/or Macromedia Flash in order to be accessed do not comply with basic accessibility needs for people running certain browsers, those with browsers tailored for disabilities, or those who choose to browse without scripting or plug-ins activated. There is also still a small portion of web viewers who are using systems and browsers that crash upon attempting to load Java or Flash heavy pages. Thus, if a site requires the use of Java and Flash for basic access (and offers no low-tech alternative, which would solve the problem every time), then Filmtracks will not link to that site on this page.

Reviews, E-zines, Databases, and Composer Sites:

These are the sites that fans and reviewers visit when we're curious about the opinions of our fellow score collectors about individual albums, or when we're just looking for broad database information on soundtracks. These sites have also provided the best support for Filmtracks and the other fan-based score sites on the web.

Industry, Label, Purchasing, and Radio Show Links:

The links below lead to professional references for soundtracks on the web. As of 2001, allbut a few major soundtrack labels have attractive websites of their own; many of these sites feature audio clips of their releases, as well as opportunities to purchase CDs for a few dollars less. Industry magazine links provide a glimpse from the performer/composer point of view. Radio shows often air weekly, with Real Audio broadcasts. Purchasing links lead to sites that offer regular releases for low prices, and I also include links to a few of my favorite sites to purchase collectible scores.
