
It's amazing to realize that since October 8th, 1996, my reviews have
perverted the minds of over 2 million visitors. Within days of
Filmtracks' one-year anniversary, the home page received its 100,000th
hit. It's also amazing that I've only received seven death threats in
that time (most of which from easily-agitated Disney fans). By the end of
this year, Filmtracks' look will receive another major face-lift, in the
tradition of those below.

A Note about the New Filmtracks Home Page:
As with many sites across the web, my home page was due for a new look
--six months of the same old layout was starting to make me nuts. So
I got this crazy idea the other day to make Filmtracks' overall site
layout into the shape of a CD player. Thus, I got to playing with
Photoshop... Ten days, eleven layers, and 48 cans of Pepsi later, I
came up with what you see there now. By then, my girlfriend was ready
to kill me. Interestingly --for those of you out there who are graphic
artists-- I did my fastest and best work while watching Monday Night
Football (first, the 49ers smashed Carolina, then the Cowboys withered
up and died against the Redskins...). I don't know why, but it just
stimulates my artistic side!
Some tech info: Believe it or not, the new layout is less graphical
than the last version of Filmtracks, and it has been narrowed to fit on
almost any screen (with almost any resolution). I've done everything I can
to make the page "fully functional" for those of you who browse with
images off (or are using a text-only browser). Many people complain that
this site is too
dark. Granted, it is on the dark side, I've discovered that many people
browse with their screens not too bright and/or their screens are
burning out (these things happen over time). The page consists of a
nightmare of tables --just check out the code if you want massive
confusion.
I didn't particularly want to resort to advertisements on the main
page, but I have no choice if I want to keep up on my payments
to the server. If I don't get any/enough sponsors, I'll have
to shut down the site for "x hours" a day.
Feedback from the form below has been great thus far, and I
thank all of you who took the time to fill it out! |
So for this first anniversary Theme of the Month, I decided to put this
site into your hands. With filmmusic.com passing on this month, the
oldest and best film music site will have been dismembered. I'd like to
know what all of you want to see in the future of Filmtracks (call it "a
little film music internet R&D"). I maintain this site because I love the
contact I gain with the wider film music world, and if there's any way I
can better that contact, I want to know!
Keep in mind though that there's (currently) only one guy behind this
site, so the "GIVE US MORE!" suggestions just make me more frustrated
with my classes... ;-) ... I'm also aware of the delay that there is
between the release of a CD nationally and when it appears here --call
that an ode to the lack of technology here in Montana. It often takes an
extra week or so for new CDs to hit the shelves here or arrive in the
mail. So your suggestions would mostly help me allocate the time I spend
on the site.
