Compilations and Other Special Albums

Every Filmtracks review page contains many basic features. All reviews are written by the Filmtracks webmaster, except for those submitted for publication by our visitors (learn more about donating reviews). Reviews are primarily focused on the score as it functions on a CD album, however sometimes the "music as heard in the film" will also be discussed. Guest reviews can be submitted at any time to the e-mail address on any review page, although qualifications for guest reviews are strict. Feedback regarding the reviews is welcomed, and you can discuss their merits with other Filmtracks visitors at our ScoreBoard Forum. Reviews are based on a five star rating system (***** = Classic, * = Frisbee). Some reviews have a split rating, mostly in cases where a particular album is far above or below the merit of the score itself. In these cases, ratings for "Music as heard in film" (i.e. the score itself) and "Music as heard on album" (i.e. the album only) are graded individually, with a composite rating reflecting the weight of one over the other.

Real Audio Along with the review, all Filmtracks title pages feature track listings and correct track/overall times. Multiple purchasing options to popular online discount stores provide easy price comparison. Notes about conductors, orchestrators, and performers are provided when available. Information about the release itself are always included, with the release date, kind of album (commercial, promotional, bootleg), and availability/cost in the United States. Also provided for many reviews are links to similar, recommended scores, as well as information about awards and nominations. Cover art is available for all albums, and a picture of the composer often accompanies the credits. External links lead to the record label of the individual releases, and sometimes the performing orchestra. Selected reviews feature as many as four audio clips; these clips are in the form of Real Audio (.ra) and are provided in ISDN mono sound.

If a score has been released more than once, all previous releases will likely be covered on the newer review page. Since Filmtracks covers film scores exclusively, song compilations are not reviewed; only if over one-half of the music on any song/score combination album is score related will it be included here. Soundtracks that have been reviewed and added to the database in the last six weeks will have a new! next to the title. You can also view these listings by the year of release.

Note: All reviews written or revised after January 1, 2003 feature the "Filmtracks Recommends" overview at the beginning of those reviews.
