daring music for the soul

I, like some audience members, waited with trepidation as the film rolled out what promised to be an unrelenting journey into despair and suffering. What kept me connected was the music, eerily resonating with my own bruised heart amongst those of the characters on the screen. In sum, the movie was an experience of humanity at its highest level, an alchemical transmutation. From the film's dark guitar ruminations of Nigredo, to the tears and softening of Solutio, to the connunctio of the two main characters coming together in the love scene, the music played barely above a whisper and no louder than a beating heart full of pain. Finally, we were released into Rubedo on no more than a gush of wind from a finished heart. Our own redemption was to be released and buried to Dave Matthew's benediction with "grave digger" -- so appropriate. The movie is inseparable from the music, and I am gratified it was played to the actors for "mood", and consequently the movie never hit a bad note. Gracias.
