I have been listening to the score on some good headphones since Tuesday and I find it entertaining and creepy enough. I think that there is a great orchestral depth considering that this was played with a smaller than usual orchestra.
Consider, Goldsmith does not have to make every score a career topper, or even most or all track to be showpieces. It is unrealistic to compare every new Goldsmith score to our personal favorites; Star Trek TMP, Omen, Total Recall. I cannot find a single score where Goldsmith is not inventive and peculiar in his composition. He has brought himself up to date perpetually and he is using the soundscape of modern cinema in ways composers 1/3 his age are'nt even trying.
I love Hollow Man, I thought The Haunting was shimmering and elegant, and Along cCame a Spider is just fine, it is moody, eccentric and powerful.
