I've been a longtime fan of movie soundtracks. I got into listening to and collecting them back in 1980 with The Empire Strikes Back.

I've been disappointed with a lot of soundtracks in recent years because too many of them feature pop bands and little score, even when some of them had plenty of score music. There has also been a disappointing trend to include songs inspired by instead of using music actually featured in the film. Another disturbing trend is including dialogue and soundeffects over top of music. I think the Pulp Fiction soundtrack did a great job of avoiding this by having dialogue between the music instead of over it. Unfortunately, "More Music From The Motion Picture Gladiator" featured dialogue over some of the music which had been previously unreleased.

I would love to see more complete soundtrack releases like the Star Wars Special Edition 2 CD sets.

My favorite soundtrack composers in no particular order are:

John Williams
Danny Elfman
Hans Zimmer
Bruce Broughton
Trevor Jones
Hiroshi Miyagawa
Randy Edelman
John Powell
Mark Mancina
Yoko Kanno
Howard Shore
James Newton Howard
Ennio Morricone
Akira Ifukube
Jerry Goldsmith
James Horner
Mark Snow
