Final Battle score   Thursday, May 23, 2002 (12:29 p.m.)

Yes, I was dissapointed on the score for the final battle. I expected to hear some new music, and all we got was parts of the score from Ep. 1. Don't get me wrong, I liked the score for Phantom Menace, but I don't like when they "recycle" music like that from one film to another the way it was done in Attack of the Clones. The movie still rocked, though!!!!!

Now two questions: why did Williams use the Duel of Fates theme to describe Anakin's trip to find his mother? Why does he use the Droid Army theme to describe the Clone Army when Obi-Wan first sees it? I'm very curious.

Duel Of The Fates I'm still not sure, but I'm pretty sure that Williams didn't put Federation theme when Obi sees the clone army. It's like playing a march for an army when you see the opponent. It's stupid.

Well, i think that the word "fate" maybe has something to do with that. Although never mentioned by Lucas or in the film, maybe it was Anakin's fate to to see his mother for the last time before she died. By using "Duel of the Fates" maybe Williams wants to prepare us that something tragic is about to happen(remember Qui-Gon). And the chorus does a great job in portraying that feeling of tragedy and suffering. This is my explanation for that.

My theory:

This comes from the mind of an SW Fan, so bear with me. I believe the droid army theme for the clone army was intentional. Why? The clone army is an upgrade of the droid armies from TPM used by the Trade Federation. While at the climax of AOTC the droid armies and the clone armies do battle against one another, they share a similar theme simply because they are both tools and therefore in reality are fighting for the same purpose: Darth Sidious/Palpatine's Hitleresque rise to power. The sight of the droid army to Obi-Wan carries that same martial quality,of no longer just droids but actual living beings created from technology, a technology that will eventually mass-produce or "clone" thousands of star destroyers, tie fighters and two death stars. Also note that the after the battle of Geonosis, when Palpatine, Bail Organa and company are observing
the clones line up and board the very familiar looking starships, the droid army theme is replaced with the Imperial march. And what a performance of the imperial march too! It gave me goose-bumps.
